Public Holidays

China has a number of public holidays and festivals celebrated throughout the year. There are seven major Chinese festivals, the most important being the Chinese New Year, during which most shops and businesses close. Chinese New Year celebrations fall between January and February each year. 

Public holidays for 2021 include:

*The dates in this table are estimates. It's common for the government to adjust the work days around public holidays by changing them to the weekend to make a continuous public holiday relatively longer for those traveling or visiting home.
The State Council also provides public holidays for specific social groups: 

* International Women's Day is observed for half a day by women only.
* Youth Day is observed for half a day by youths aged 14 to 28.
* Children's Day is observed for a full day by children below the age of 14.
* Army Day is observed for half a day by m小tary personnel in active service.

Holidays and Festivals

In addition to national holidays, Shenzhen has many local festivals, such as: 

Shenzhen Nanshan Lychee Festival 
Time: Every year from June to July Location: Nanshan District, Shenzhen 
In Shenzhen, there is a tradition of inviting friends and family from home and abroad to visit a lychee garden during lychee season, which allows one to not only enjoy the unique taste of the fresh lychee but also the beautiful scenery in the countryside. It is also a chance to connect and enhance friendships. The Lychee Festival is based on this traditional custom. During the festival, various forms of economic and cultural networking activities are carried out under the " lychee " theme to showcase the achievements and prosperity of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone. 

Shenzhen Golden Coast Tourism Festival 
Time: to be decided every year Location: Yantian District, Shenzhen 
Surrounded by the steep Wutong Mountain, the beautiful Meisha Bay and the ancient Chung Ying Street, Yantian District is where the natural landscape meets modern urban scenery. Having been held for 1 6 years, Shenzhen Golden Coast Tourism Festival has become one of the oldest and most influential tourism festivals in Shenzhen. During the festival, several recommended tour routes are released and a variety of activities, such as a shopping carnival, food carnival, tea ceremony, wine tasting and cultural workshops, are organized. 

Longgang "Dragon Dance Town" Art Festival 
Time: Every year from November to December Location: Longgang District, Shenzhen 
As a folk art activity, Dragon Dance has a history of 300 years and has a strong local flavor. Its related "Dragon Culture" has also been greatly promoted. Longgang District is named after the dragon and is a famous dragon town both at home and abroad. The local Hakka people have always regarded the dragon as a mascot. Dragon dance, lion dance and kylin dance are performed during holidays and festivals, adding a festive and joyful atmosphere to the area. In Longgang District, the only dragon-themed tourist attraction in China has been built at a total investment of 100 million RMB. 

Shajing Golden Oyster Festival 
Time: every year from December to February Location: Bao'an District, Shenzhen 
Shajing Golden Oyster Festival showcases the Shajing culture, history and folk traditions through music, dance, poetry and more. During the festival, nine events, including " Oyster Gourmet Festival, " the Oyster Culture Photo Exh仰lion, the Oyster Culture Photography Contest and the one-day trip to the Oyster town, are held to let guests learn about the history and culture of Shajing Oysters, and experience the profound cultural heritage and long history of Bao'an as " the root of the River Xiang, the mother of Shenzhen. " 

Happy Coast Happy Lantern Festival 
Time: every year from December to February Location: Happy Coast, Nanshan District, Shenzhen 
As a must-see for the Shenzhen people during the Spring Festival, the Happy Lantern Show aims to "tell Chinese stories, pass on Chinese culture and bring peace and」oy to the holiday." Ten dazzling scenic spots with more than 60 large-scale creative lanterns that combine traditional and technological elements, as well as interactive games, such as parent-child beaches, child-friendly trains, VR games and specialty food streets, are launched to fac仆itate the cheerful celebration of the Chinese Year. 

Shenzhen Animation Lantern Festival 
Time: every year from December to March Location: Coconut Grove Beach, Happy Coast, Shenzhen 
Supported by the Publicity Department of Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Culture, Sports and Tourism Administration of Shenzhen Municipality, Shenzhen Animation Lantern Festival has become an important cultural event in Shenzhen, embodying the cultural life of the entire city. With its creative concept, diverse forms and colorful content Shenzhen Animation Lantern Festival has been selected by the Shenzhen "Creative December" organizing committee as one of the activities in the "Creative December" campaign. As the first large-scale themed lantern festival in Shenzhen, Shenzhen Anime Lantern reinvents the traditional lanterns with more than 800 years of history by integrating new elements, such as fashion, technology and animation. The stunning giant lantern installations are bright, colorful and spectacular, making you feel like you are swimming in an ocean of lanterns and a world of fairy tales.
