With nearly 95% of the population being migrants, Shenzhen is the only city in Guangdongwhere Mandarin is more widely spoken than Cantonese, the dialect of Guangdong Province. It is challenging to live in Shenzhen without speaking any Chinese, but the local people arefriendly and usually enjoy talking to foreigners. Most foreign residents find speaking to localpeople both interesting and fun. This, and a bit of bravery, will also help you to learn a bit ofChinese, which will make your life here easier. If you aren' t fluent in Mandarin, an offlinetranslation app or dictionary is a must during your stay in Shenzhen. Pleco can be used asboth.
