Accredited by Advance ED, SAIS is 10 years old and provides enrollment in preschool through grade 9 (ages 4-14). The curriculum was formulated based on High Tech High in San Diego, California, which was opened with a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and is structured around four basic principles: personalization, adult world connection, common intellectual mission and teacher as designer. The school employs PBL and Maker education to deepen learning and develop creativity through hands on projects, such as making instruments or cookbooks and baking, in order to incorporate American common core knowledge. Foreign teachers account for 75 percent of the faculty. They provide a language resource room for EAL students, have a makerspace on campus and are affiliated with Next Generation Science Standards, AERO Social Studies Standards and American national standards in Music, Physical Education and Art. Teachers must have a teaching certificate from an accredited university or college.
