Introduction

SCIE is a high school authorized by Cambridge International Education (CIE) in Futian District, just north of the border with Hong Kong. Cambridge qualifications are recognized for admission by U.K. universities (including Oxford and Cambridge) as well as universities in the United States (including Stanford and all Ivy League universities), Canada, the European Union, the Middle East, West Asia, New Zealand, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. Founded in 2003, it offers Cambridge IGCSE and A-level courses that are all taught in English except for the Chinese-language and Physical Education classes. Only 10 percent of applicants are accepted. Foreign teachers make up 60 percent of the faculty. Teachers must have a degree in their area of expertise and a teaching qualification, such as PGCE, BEd or equivalent. SCIE is an accredited member of Council of International Schools (CIS), and affiliated with the regional organizations East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) and FOBISIA as well as SI SAC, DELE, AS DAN, RGS, Trinity College examinations and the International Award. It offers 13 AP courses for U.S. applicants and is an approved Edexcel examination center and UCAS UK university application center.
