Q&A

What are your favorite foods?
B: Being a trained chef in French and Italian cuisines, I am a meat lover with a big tendency for savory meats (think salami, Parma hams and all kinds of raw cheeses) and sweets with a heavy hint of buttery creaminess (certainly including Belgian chocolate, and the fondant version is my favorite treat. I also have a hard time saying no to a good ice cream accompanied by heavy buttery caramel and other such really flavorful pleasures). That being said, I'm fond of slight notes of bitterness (think the bitters in cocktails or the peel of an orange) and the tart feeling of an acetic lemony sourness. The best bribery for me is for sure covered in dark bitter chocolate and stuffed with creamy sourness, like a good lemon cheesecake, though with time and having had to overcome so many health challenges, I've learned to appreciate a healthier variety of the same pleasures. But I still sin every now and again by indulging (once a chef, forever a chef).

Geoffs Picks

Hanover Coffee
I almost always start my day (after working out) with a cup of home brewed coffee, and as I am a chef, the flavor matters as much as the taste, texture and health attributes of what I put in my body, so I mostly work with Hanover Coffee. Founded in Germany by a German family, the young couple Fabian and Isa decided to bring its culture of specialty coffee and amazing traditions to China. They use single origin beans tested for both European and Chinese standards, assuring the lowest possible amount of mold toxins before they freshly roast them in small batches, ensuring a fresh batch for every customer and giving you the best aroma you can get your hands on in Shenzhen without the jitter caused by larger quantity and lower quality productions.
My favorite is The Kenya Peaberry Plus, a unique bean that is carefully selected. While normal coffee cherries contain two coffee beans, a Peaberry cherry only has one seed. The round shape is responsible for achieving a more even roast and the higher density leads to a fuller taste. Peaberries require an extreme amount of careftil sorting, which leads to an even and high grade output. This coffee has a unique citric taste and a complex body, in other words, the perfect way to start a day.
